Writer's Block: Concert mania

I have always wanted to see Brand New in concert, their music is simply beautiful. I'd also love to see Starsailor, another awesome band. Cat Power, Imogen Heap and Chevelle would all also be great. And I would travel far and wide to see any of them if I had the means to.

What band are you dying to see live in concert that you've never seen before? Would you travel to a different city or state just to see them?

Out of all of your favorite books, pick just one you'd recommend everyone read. As a bonus: why did you pick that one?

The Gargoyle, by Andrew Davidson. It's a wonderful read, a tale of pain and romance across centuries. I never wanted to put it down.

Have you ever met a celebrity in real life? Who was it and how did your paths cross?

I met Twitch Boss, Kherrington Payne, Gev Manoukian, Courtney Galiano,  Mark Kanemura, Will Wingfield, Comfort Fedoke, Jessica King, and Chelsea Traille when I saw te fourth season tour show of So You Think You Can Dance. It was about midnight and I ran around back to meet them and get autographs with about 300 other people. Stupid me though, I forgot my camera.

What's the story behind your username?

It was the name Darla was using in the Angel season 2 episode 'Dear Boy'. I just thought it was so pretty, and it had a nice ring to it.

Which of the seven deadly sins—sloth, greed, lust, gluttony, anger, envy, and pride—are you most likely to commit?

At the moment, I am committing lust, but only on the weekends, but I tend to favor greed and sloth.

What fictional high school—from tv, film, or a book—would you most like to attend? Or would you rather never go near high school again, fictional or otherwise?

Sunnydale High. I'd just stick with Buffy and the gang, and I'd be fine.

Writer's Block: Doctor Who?

26-year-old actor Matt Smith was anointed as the eleventh Doctor Who this week. If you were in charge of casting, who would you cast as your ideal Doctor and why?

I'm open to this new actor's take on The Doctor. I'm very interested to see where he goes with it and plays it. He looks good and handsome and somewhat playful, which are good things. I would prefer to keep David Tennant because his portrayal was amazing and energetic and boy could he spit out those lines. But I wouldn't know where to start with casting someone else. I think for a character as classic as The Doctor, that's a responsibility I'm glad to not have.

Many beloved television shows are no longer with us, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Six Feet Under, and Mystery Science Theater 3000. What defunct television show do you miss the most?

View 500 Answers

Buffy's not defunct! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Buffy, Angel, Firefly. The major three. Love them muches.

If you could pick any TV show that has been off the air to come back for one more season, which show would you pick and why?

Obviously Firefly. I am a huge fan of it, but it was canceled far too soon. Barely a season in, and the network is sick of it. The movie helped, but another season would be absolutely amazing.

What are some gripping opening lines from films or books, and why do you think they work so well?

I've always love the first lines of Lolita, probably that whole first paragraph. It's a bit much to memorize exactly, but it's really lovely.

What song lyrics would you love to have written, and why?

View 506 Answers

I would love to say that I had written all of the lyrics on Brand New's Deja Entendu album. Especially Guernica and Good to Know If I Ever Want Attention All I Have to Do is Die. Lovely songs, both. And they speak to me most. Wish I could express myself in words so out there and true.

Bad ass vampires all the way. Longevity, stamina, power, and that otherworldy charm. It so beats getting hairy and pissed three days a month.

If you had the chance to go crazy and completely overhaul your appearance, what would you do?

Or:

Recount a remarkable incident involving insects.

I would cut and dye my hair pretty colors, maybe black and blue. I'd pierce my nose, up my ears, my eyebrow, my bellybutton, and someplace else unmentionable. I'd get sleeves of tattoos, and on my back and neck and collar and fingers. I'd wear hot slutty clothes, tight tops and cool jeans. Much, much better than my average, everyday appearance.

What type of music inspires you?

View 500 Answers

Anything with speeping sounds, echoes, and breathing. I just love when you can hear the singer breath. It makes me feel as if they are right next to me, and I can visualize them.

Right now, I am into Yo La Tengo, which has a grasshopper, twangy sound; Andrew Bird, who whistles in almost all his songs on the newest album, and has one entirely of birds and crickets; "A Light on a Hill", by Margot and the Nuclear So and So's is just...heart drop relaxing to me and utterly beautiful; "Shipwrecked" by Shane Alexander, with great guitar and soft voice; and lastly, A Perfect Circle, mostly "The Noose", which gives me that feeling of formication in my whole body.

Simply beautiful music that needs to be heard.

How many pair of shoes do you have? Out of those pairs, how many do you wear more than a few times a year?

View 501 Answers

I only have two pairs of shoes. My sandals that I wear 9 times out of ten, and then my close-toed-type shoes, that I will only wear when driving or when stepping in gross stuff or it's raining. I suck as a girl.

How Will You Save the Planet?

As the Energy Avenger, your plan to save the world involves saving all the energy you possibly can. You are a fan of solar power, public transportation, and unplugging things when you're not using them (since lots of stuff, like cell phone chargers, use power even when you're not actually charging anything). You love turning the lights off, because the more power you save, the more powerful you feel. And besides, there's lots of fun to be had in the dark!

What you'll wear to save the world: A stretchy jumpsuit that's totally vintage. It probably belonged to another world-saving caped hero back in the '70s, and you love the idea that no new energy or materials were used to create your costume. If you always wash it in cold water, you'll not only save energy -- you'll keep the colors of your costume extra bright. (Your outfit might also involve a cozy sweater, so you'll never have to turn up the heat if you get cold. An energy hero like you is a master of the multiple-layer disguise.)
